This degenerative joint disease occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones gradually wears away, leading to painful bone-on-bone contact. Osteoarthritis can cause swelling, stiffness, and limited range of motion in affected joints, often the weight-bearing ones like knees, hips, and spine. As the cartilage breaks down, bone spurs may form, further contributing to the pain and inflammation. While there's no cure, treatments aim to manage symptoms, improve function, and slow progression. Hear from Mike and his total knee replacement with Dr. Lammens: "From the first call inquiring about making an appointment to graduating from the process 9 weeks later, my wife and I decided that Dr. Lammens and his team were a well oiled machine. Communication, documentation, advisement through the process (beginning to end), was more than I expected and we could not be happier at this time! My total knee replacement surgery went really well and the recovery/rehabilitation process has been [better] than expected as well. My physical therapist and others have and keep asking me 'where did I have my surgery performed' and I happily tell them Dr. Lammens and Panorama Orthopedics. So again, after 20 weeks (11 before surgery and 9 after) of following procedural guidelines as directed, I am good to go and so happy I got this done. Life changing for both my wife and I. Going snow shoeing next week with no hesitation!" We followed up with Mike later on and he shared that his total knee replacement is still doing great! Most recently, he was back to hiking his favorite neighborhood trail system which borders the Colorado Trail and the base of Antero, Princeton & Shavano.
